If you wish to spend your vacations in a unique and interesting way, try the home exchange facility available these days. As the name implies, you make arrangements to swap houses with others when you travel abroad for leisure or business purposes. Apart from saving huge amounts, you can even avoid the difficulties like booking the accommodation as the home swap option is a simple process and doesn’t require much time and efforts.
What is home swapping?
Home swap is something that a huge amount of people opt for these days. Earlier people were not comfortable with the idea of swapping their homes and letting other people stay at their properties. But with change in time, apartment switch has become a trend.
Make prior arrangements.
When you wish to achieve ideal and perfect home swapping, it is advisable that you prepare for arrangements in advance. Unlike the hotel and resort reservations in which you book the rooms at last minutes or just a day before your arrival, home switch refers to the abode of some other person or family and so it is crucial to make important arrangements in advance.
As it might be hard to see the living conditions and lifestyle of the locals when you stay at a hotel, you will see that when you stay in a home, you will be able to enjoy more real life experiences.
Decide on everything in advance.

After you make proper arrangements for home swapping, you need to carry out confirmatory talks with the other party to make necessary preparations. In the swapping process, the contact is started by either party to initiate a nice relationship. Just as other paper agreements and transactions, it will be nice for the contracting parties to be familiarized with one another before carrying out the swapping process.
Have a nice rapport.
When you have nice rapport and relationship with the party you wish to swap house with, you will be able to easily rest and relax as you would know that your home will be taken care of properly. Moreover, there will be no more worries about paying for the house sitter when you are gone.
Save hugely with home switch.
Apartment swap is not just a great way to experience other places and destinations, it can save huge amount of money as well. Also, you do not have to spend on the costly dining options in restaurants and there will be huge savings.
In case you are one of those who wish to enjoy the comforts of home even when you are far off from your own abode, house switch is a nice option. With amazing amenities and facilities, you will be able to easily relax at the home swapped and enjoy the “home like” feel. Just ensure that when you stay in the swapped apartment, you take care of the belongings carefully, without damaging any item or the property. You can save more pennies by cooking, washing and doing other chores at the home you stay at as you will not require hiring such services at costly rates in a foreign land.
So enjoy home swapping to the maximum and save greatly.

Five Things to Know About Bartering

Okay, baseball still beats out barter. But given the economic downturn, many people are reverting to this ancient form of commerce. Craigslist recently reported that bartering activity had jumped more than 80% on the site over the past year. Sites such as report a surge in interest, too. BarterQuest, which offers swaps on everything from chef’s services to designer coats, drew more than 100,000 visitors just two months after the Web site launched late last year. The reason? Bartering is addictive — and fun. Kent Berryman, founder of, says that once users post one item, they usually offer up more. Plus, says Berryman, “people are used to getting good deals at big-box stores. But now that they don’t have the money, they’re bartering.”

2. You can trade just about anything

Want to upgrade your camera? Online retailer Adorama will quote you a price for your old camera free and cut you a check or offer a credit toward new equipment (go to and click on “sell used equipment”). Dying to break your car lease? Go to or, which, for a fee, will match up people who want to unload their leases with people who want to assume them. But don’t stop there. At, recent trades included a gas clothes dryer for a high-speed table saw, a personal-shopping jaunt for a Nintendo Game Boy and games, and a service swap between a hairdresser and a certified public accountant.

3. Let the barterer beware

Craigslist doesn’t prescreen users. So if you’re looking to swap for a service you really need — such as baby-sitting — start by contacting friends and neighbors. Or try a site that verifies the addresses and phone numbers of its users, such as BarterBee lets you trade CDs, movies and video games free, and it will post a detailed description of your item for you. But, says Robert Alvin,’s chief executive, be sure you know what your product or service is worth. “If you list it too high, it won’t move,” he says.

4. Try a home swap

You can join a home-swap club, such as International Home Exchange Network (, for as little as $40 a year. For tips on finding the right club, go to offers members added security, such as address-verification services, online exchange agreements and, if problems arise, mediation services ($25 a year; home-exchange insurance starts at $15). Caveat: If you’re hoping to swap on a particular date, start looking for a match as early as possible. Then, once you’ve found someone, keep in touch.

5. Keep Uncle Sam in the loop

If you barter on more than a casual basis, you may be required to report your transactions. The IRS has guidance on its Web site (, but check with your accountant. If you’re a small-business owner and trade services with another firm or use a barter exchange, such as Barter Business Unlimited (, you need to pay tax on the value of the goods or services you bartered. The general rule of thumb: If the service you receive is a substitute for business income, you must report it.

How to Do a House Swapping’

This weekend I overheard a conversation about house swapping in a cafe. One of the guys wanted to try it for the first time this summer with an apartment in Australia. And of course his friends were a bit skeptical. I joined their conversation and I quickly found out that house swapping isn't just going on a trip for little money. People are concerned about all kinds of things. So here are some things I found on the internet that should help you not worry too much about this great thing called house swapping:
Mutual Trust Do you believe in humanity? You should, but if you don't do too much at least we try to make our users as transparent as possible by our rating system. No early decisions Be open minded about your destination. Sometimes there comes a surprise along you never ever would have dreamed of. If you stick to one particular place you want to go it will most definitely end up in a letdown.
Living Details I don't know about you, but even though I'm open minded to new cultural experiences some places in this world just work completely different than ours and because of that I'm always very thankful if someone helps me with the cultural differences. So the best you can do, is making a list about all the stuff you would like to know and exchange it with your swapping partner. And also where you keep your daily stuff which grab everyday but only you know where it is. Writing and talking always helps
Don't die of thirst! Make sure you know where you can get your water and food. If you go on a trip to Thailand and you are somewhere in the jungle the next supermarket could be a far cry from your refrigerator.
Cleaner than clean (this includes smells you got used to) If you think your house is clean, just do it all over again. Just imagine trading a place in Paris, arrive there and then... well start looking for Mr. Clean. I think you wanna do something else (in the city of love).
Trust is good, Insurance is better Talk to your insurance agent about your swapping plans! This will give you additional peace of mind. So what else do you need? Well a destination for starters! What about this one...
